Dispelling Maguire vs. Warlow [Saturday, September 23rd, 2006
@ 7:37pm]

All right.  So cloudytm has been doing this already for Javerts and Cosettes, but I thought I'd bring a bit of variety to us mad Enjolras fangirls.  The eternal Michael Maguire vs. Anthony Warlow flamewar has been going on since time immemorial, but surely I can't be the only one who's not overly fond of either performer?  MM rubs me the wrong way (and that TAC performance, yeesh!), and Warlow sounds really bored in the role and shouts random words for no reason whatsoever.  And... well, surely no one can say definitively that either of them is The Best Enjolras Ever when they've only heard three people in the role?!

So, I propose to remedy this. :)  I've raided my way-too-massive recording collection and taken advantage of my ridiculously fast connection to upload a few of my favorite Enjolrati.  (A few, you say?!  Well, okay, maybe I got a bit carried away.)  Consider this a sampler of sorts.

Michel Sardou - Do You Hear the People Sing? (from the French concept album)
Kenji Sakamoto - ABC Cafe/Red and Black (from the Japanese green recording)
Alexander Diepold - ABC Cafe/Red and Black (from the Vienna recording)
Robert Jicha - ABC Cafe/Red and Black (from the Czech complete recording - if nothing else, fast-forward to "they will come when we call")
Martin Berger & company - One Day More (from the Duisburg  recording)
Ruben Roberts - Red and Black (from the Buenos Aires production)
Matt Cammelle - ABC Cafe/Red and Black (from a Stockholm concert performance, in English)
Victor Wallace - ABC Cafe/Red and Black (from the US 3rd national tour, late 2005)
John Owen-Jones - Dawn of Anguish/Final Battle (from the London production, 1997)

Even if fictional characters were real and alive, the title of this community would of itself be an impossibility. Discuss.

[Further questions for the class: We all, presumably, want to do Enjolras anyway. Does his unattainability make him even more attractive, or is it just an obstacle to hot, hot revolutionary lovin'? Are we, by lusting after the ascetic priest of the ideal, missing the damn point? If we are, do we care? And finally, if you were given the choice between having sex with book!Enjolras and having sex with musical!Enjolras, assuming either one could somehow be convinced to have sex with you, which one would you pick?]

And P.S. I hugged Victor Wallace last night. He's terribly sweet in person and put up with my crazy fangirliness quite admirably. Have I mentioned lately that he's a wonderful Enjolras?

It's not just because he's the guy currently on tour, he really is that good. *fans self* [Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

*sighs* I hate to be a bandwagon-jumper but the past two shows I saw have converted me. Victor Wallace is a bloody amazing Enjolras. I was mostly convinced last Thursday when he had an absolutely wonderful performance--I couldn't keep my eyes off him. Gorgeous voice, so much charisma, and oh was he ever on fire that night. And then last night I was front row and that just put the seal on it. I confess I wasn't paying nearly as much attention to his performance this time, because I was too busy being clobbered over the head by my own raging hormones. I swear he's twice as pretty up close, and before last night I never really noticed how tight those pants are. *falls over* Do me, Enjolras. Do me, Victor Wallace.

[Friday, January 20th, 2006
@ 9:48am]

Hello Fellow Les Miz and Enjolras fans! I saw Les Miz agian (my dad suprised my mom and I with tickets) So yesterday, my mom and I went to see Les Miserables together at the National Theatre. And it was even better then the first time. OK, all the details. I'm doing this in list form so get ready.

-When I saw it on the 7th, it was the very first show and it had the whole cast, no understudies. I fell in love with everyone except for Fantine, who just pissed me off, she wasn’t what I thought Fantine should be like, and I didn’t like that way she was singing. Everyone else was great the first time, but the ones who stood out were Javert, Eponine, The Thenardiers, Valjean, Gavroche, and of course Enjolras. He was the best, he WAS Enjolras, I thought no one could get better than Mike Migure (the very first and original Enjolras) but Victor Wallace (this Enjolras) was simple Amazing. I still can’t decide whose voice is better.

-Ok now on to this show. Fist of all, We got there like 25 min. before curtain, plenty of time for us to get to our seats right? No, the lines were ridiculous and they kept sending us to the wrong places. We had a box and there are two ways to get to our seats either go to the second floor and got thought this little passageway to the seats, or go to the third floor and go down the staircase to the seats. Well, we can’t go down the stairs cause my moms in a wheel chair, so that was out of the question. So finally, 20 min into the show (when Fantine gets into the fight with the other factory girl) we get into out seats. And they were the best seats I have EVER had to a show. We were like right on top of the stage. My mom and I started to cry when we got to our seats because we were so excited to be there. I was dying. We brought binoculars and were could see the sweat coming of the actors, it was amazing. I was on literally hanging over the rail. It was wonderful.

-Ok, characters. We had some understudies for this show, but you knew there had to be. I was really worried about some of the characters. Sadly Fantine was the same, but the second time is not as bad.

-Eponie was understudied, but I liked no loved her understudy, she was wonderful, In fact I think she fit the character a little bet better. We also had Javerts understudy, who usually plays Grantaire (the drunk who I am convinced is in love with Enjolras). HE was wonderful, as I watched him; I thought why is he the understudy? I liked his a little, but just a little bit more than the original Javert.

-And because he was playing Javert, we had the understudy for Grantaire, who I LOVE, and have always loved his character, I love him in the book, and in all the Movies and In the Musical, he always makes me laugh. I love that way that they pair him with Gavroche (the little boy) and all the crude sexual jokes he tells about Marius. But mostly I love the way that he interacts with Enjolras. They have this very love/hate relationship, cause Enjolras sort of hates him for being a lazy drunk and everything and Grantaire adores and worships Ejolras (if you read the book you get that) and At the end of the battle for the barricade, it isn’t until Enjolras is shot that Grantaire stands up and goes to the top of the barricade and dies trying to get to Enjolras. Grantaire's understudy is so so so hot, I was dying watching him and Enjolras together. They were easily the hottest men on stage for the WHOLE show. So HOT!!! I love them.

-We were lucky enough to get the real Valjean, who is so wonderful, I can’t even explain it. He is Valjean, and he was wonderful, I mean really wonderful. He has this voice that just knocks my purple socks off. (No, I was not warring purple socks to see Les Miz, I wore a skirt that can also be a strapless dress, with a nice little sweeter and, drum roll please.... high heels. And I wore it all to school, Yes Sydney Jordan Rosen wore a Dress and Heels to school, and it was a BITCH.) When mom and me stood at the stage door, he was out there and I was lucky enough (again) to get his autograph and have my picture taken with him.

- (Autographs part 2) My dad wasn’t going to be able to pick me and my mom up for like an hour after the show, so we just stood by the stage door, and Gavroche comes out and he was so cute. I asked him for his autograph and then we talked for like 15 min. about the show and everything and he was so nice and cute and oh I love Gavroche, and he is so small, he doesn’t seem that small on stage but he is so cute and short, and I asked his mom if I could take him home with me and she laughed as said only if I wanted to drag him to rehearsal. It was so cute. He was so so so cute.

-I never pay much attention to Cossette, she has always annoyed me, I like young Cossette but old Cossette had this whinny voice and a really bad wig. I still and forever want Marius and Eponine to get together.

-Marius was Great. I love him too. He and Enjolras were great together. Just great.

-Les Amis de le ABC, aka the barricade boys aka The Les Amis de le ABC de la Cafe Musiln and some people (myself included) just refer to them as the Really Hot Group of French Student Rebels (the RHGFSR) They were all WONDERFUL. I love them all. My favorite scene in the whole show is and forever will be the final Barricade scene, when the are all dying, and the barricade turns and you see them all and in the end you see Gavroche laying on the ground and Enjolras in the barricade on the red flag. Oh it’s wonderful and I cry every time (even when I saw it when I was 11). I can’t even listen to that song sometimes because I start to cry, it is so wonderful. (Do you know how hard it is to walk though the halls, listing mindlessly to Les Miz and suddenly "The Final Battle starts and I am trying not to cry because, somewhere an Enjolras is Dying? It’s a lot harder than you think. Ok Bitch?)

-And last but not least, Enjolras. HE WAS PERFECT. That’s all I can say. He made me laugh, cry and want to jump up, grab a gun and die on the Barricade with him. I was so worried that he wasn’t going to be played by Victor Wallace, but when he comes out, and he and Marius are just standing in the slums as they turn them around (Before the Barricade is built it is the slums and there is a bridge and all this shit piled up on stage and there is like a little hidden area where Maruis and Enjolras stand and when they rotate the slums around on stage you see them and they are just standing there and There was Victor Wallace and I was so happy) and you see them, I saw it was Victor Wallace and I died, I swear I started to cry right then and there. I had my binoculars and I spent most of the show, well not most but a lot, staring at him and his umm, really tight black paints. During "Bring him home." the song that Valjean sings about keeping Maruis safe, Enjolras is standing on the Barricades with his back three quarters out from the audience and He looked so noble standing there. He had his gun in his hands, with the butt of it resting on the floor and he had just a little light on him and you could see him and every once in a while he would look out over the Barricade and oh it was wonderful. It was so hard to watch Valjean and Marius cause I was much to busy staring at Enjolras (and his really tight pants...). I just, I cant even explain how wonderful he was. I died when he came on stage, I died every time he came on stage. I must have died like thirty times. I had to grab my mom's hand, and she was so worried that I was sick or something cause I was shaking so hard. I love him. He has always been MY character. I just loved him. Red and Black was orgasmic (I am actually listing to Red and Black -the ABC cafe right now). Enjolras was Orgasmic. Enjolras was Wonderful. Enjolras's really tight black pants were Wonderful. Enjolras blew my pitiful little brain away. Enjolras was Enjolras.

Les Miserables was Wonderful.

Hi there

As a newbie I thought I should post something because the pull was justtoo much.

First, thank god for this community I was afraid for a little while that my Enjolras fix would never be complete.P.S: Any Eponine/Enjolras communities?

I actually saw Les Mis again in Toronto last weekend, I believe it was the travelling US tour and the Enjolras, Victor Wallace i think, was absolutely fabulous. And incredibly good looking. Has anyone seen this version, or more specifically Victor *tee* As a 16 year-old I really only have eyes for Enjolras, not that I wasn't paying attention to the rest of the musical......

Hello all! I suppose I'm a newbie in this community, even though I joined last month and just lurked around. Yay for Enjy love!! *loves Enjolras*

I just started rehersals for my theatre group's production of Les Mis. Very exciting. (I'm Cosette! :-))

There are three casts, but since were are deprived of guys who can sing, the Enjolras in my cast is played by a girl. A nice blonde girl named Sophia. Ooh, the androgyny. She has a wide range, though. She played the Beast last year in B&B.

The only other male Ami is a little boy who is Grantaire in another cast.

Well, although he's 12 years old and waay shorter than me, at least my Marius is a boy......

This will be awkward.

Wow...  I just found this community and there's been like no activity for a while.

I am in love with Les Miserables and of course Enjolras, although my favorite character is Eponine.  I've seen the musical when it came to Chicago and my English class got to go on a field trip, because we had just finished reading the novel.  The novel is amazing too.  I fell in love with the musical and then later that year, my band played highlights from it for our spring concert and fell even more in love with the music.

Just thought I should post all of this.  Hopefully this community gets more activity.

[ mood | happy ]

Today I've been sitting here with my computer and listening to Les Misérables as usual. While I was updating my lj I noticed that I wasn't a member in any community so I decided to search. And I searched for my number one obsession lately, Les Miserables and I found this group! I was surprised because I've been searching for Enjolras websites many times before and I've never found one so it was surprising to find a lj-group about him.
I've been a les mis fan since I was little, five years or something and Enjolras have always been my favorite, together with Fantine, Eponine and Gavroche.
I have not seen the musical, but I've seen the concert version when it was in Norway. I really want to go to london and se it!
I have only seen Michael Maguire as Enjolras (I own the TAC vhs) and I love his performance (to not mention that he is really handsome). I've heard some of the songs sung by Anthony Warlow and I find it really satisfying.
I would like to play him to, I always day dream about me on the stage, playing him XD
Someday I'm going to buy a nice, red vest such as his... *sigh*

I hope I'll meet many other (obsessed) fans such as myself here :)
Greetings Stormcrow

Maybe since the first time I heard the OLC..which was about 4 years ago now. I saw the show in LA in December, and am currently re-reading the book right now. ^_^ Courtesy of duva, I have seen Michael Maguire and various other Enjys...although the ones I LURVE are John-Andrew Clark, Michael Maguire...Anthony Warlow..hmm..oh, yes, Ramin too! *giggles* I'm planning on dressing up as Enjy for Halloween, it should be loads of fun.

... but I felt like sharing :-p

Anyone heard of Jim Weitzer? He's currently in "Little Women" on Broadway, and he used to play Raoul in "The Phantom of the Opera" about a year and a half ago. After listening to some.... recordings... of him as Raoul that I have, I have come to the conclusion that he is super-awesome. Really, I'd say he's the best Raoul I've ever heard. Great acting, and a very nice voice.

He also happens to be rather deliciously hot. As you can probably tell from the pictures, he's one pretty man with blue eyes and blonde hair. He's also 6'4", which you probably can't tell from the pictures. *Drools* Ahem.

Anyways, I came to a conclusion: Jim should play Enjolras. Needs to, even. It might kill me, but damn, he'd be fantastic.

What do you guys think?

okay about that last post, i realized i should have told you a bit more..

we had three casts for 6 shows, the 10-12 and the 17-19. we had worked on it for four months and we have some incredible singers but little money and a tiny stage. so our sets were ghetto and there wasnt much room for anything on the stage, but we pulled it off and dropped it like it was friggen hott. most of the people were in high school, i'm one of the few in middle school, turned 14 on the last show. the oldest people were 18, one of the valjeans, one of the javerts, and one of the thenardiers. speaking of that, i played madame thenardier, which somehow i feel is a fat joke. lol. our last show sucked beyond belief. we started messing around cuz no one was taking it seriously. for lovely ladies, we had 3 of the whores dress up and do the sailors parts ("i smell women, smell em in the air..") and the guys who normally play the sailors be whores. it was soo funny, i wish i had pictures. later, when marius is giving the letter to eponine "there is a way that you can help, you are the answer to a prayer, please take this letter to cosette and pray to God that she's still there" he totally forgot his lines and just said "fuck it, take the letter." it was hilarious. and we glued a picture of one of doctor suess's dudes onto the letter for valjean to read, he took one look at it and cracked up.

hello all. i'm new. ^_^ i'm so excited there's a community devoted to enjolras, my fave character. ^_^ i was just in a production of the school edition of les mis, our last show was december 19. it was so much fun and i'm obsessed with the show now, although i've never seen the musical, just the movie which isn't even close to as good. although i do think uma therman made an amazing fantine. but anyway, i have pics on my LJ of the show and the cast party.. not too many of the show. plus they were pics of the day we did horrible. but check out the cast party pics, and look for a guy with extremely curly hair, the caption under the pic will say it's josh. he's so cute and hott, especially as enjolras. plus he has a great voice.

i can't find the DVD of the musical anywhere, the director of our production has it but i forgot to ask him where he got it. any suggestions?

i'm so glad i'm not the only weirdo who would do enjolras. hell yes.

Serge Reggiani has died.

Only those of us who are die hard fanatics of all things Mizzy would know this fellow. He played Enjolras in one of the better film adapations from the middle of the last century. The man looked nothing like our blond hero, and I have never heard his real voice since the version of the movie I have is badly dubbed into English. But this version had most of the best lines and at least Enjolras's proper death.

It is a sad thing to lose artists who seem to live so close to their work.

PARIS (AFP) - The French singer and actor Serge Reggiani died
overnight of a heart attack at the age of 82, his agent said.

Looking for Dramatic Enjolraic Females [Sunday, July 11th, 2004
@ 12:07pm]

[ mood | hopeful ]

I've been thinking of making a community for the DEF Society (Dramatic Enjolraic Females), basically consisting of girls who think they should play Enjolras, inspired by my own unsuccessful attempt to take over the role in our local production. But then I decided that, should I make this community, it would probably only consist of a few people from this community, so why bother when this lovely community already exists?

However, I would like to make some sort of banner that people can take, kind of like those color bars that everyone and their pet dog Fido has (myself included). I'd like for it to feature pictures of Dramatic Enjolraic Females, and this is where I need help.

If any femme here has pictures of herself as Enjolras, or just looking really Revolutionary!Frenchboyish, please hook me up. Or, if you just have any suggestions or feedback, I'd love to hear it. For instance, I'm thinking that I'll make the post (which would be on my personal journal) that the banner links to a mini-website for the DEF Society. It would contain pictures or drawings of girls as Enjy, a list of why we should have the right to play Enjolras, DEF Society icons and things like that. Any ideas?

So, what do you think? Is this even a good idea? Should I make a real community or website instead? Merci beacoup!

my school is doing les mis right now, and I think I am going to kill myself. our director accidently forgot to schedule a month of rehearsal. so we open in less than two weeks, and we just learned the epilouge yesterday. just the singing. not the staging or anything. also, we don't have costumes. oh, and the director has NO vision and it seems like people just stand there. During one day more, the chorus comes out and stands behind the leads. and just stands there. just......standing there. nothing. just standing. for the entire song. we come out and stand there. its so.......not magical. its not just uninspiring, it makes me sick.

I'm a little frustrated.

Is it just me overreacting or do your guys agree?
Situation: Jill, our director has decided that everyone being killed at the barricade "looks silly". therefore only Marius gets shot. Is is just me (cheated of a heroic death at the barricade and hence extremely annoyed, i spent all night awake, sulking) or do you guys also feel that this idea is totally brain-dead? Has anyone else ever done that with a production and got away with it? If so how? (please comfort me!)

1) there is a production of Tim Kellys adaptation of Les Miserables, at the Theatre Royal,Plymouth (UK) June 1st -5th 2004, see http://www.theatreroyal.com/ and go to "select a production". Its by a local amateur group The Western College Players. I'm in it. :)

2) does anyone have more details on this adaptation by Tim kelly, i cant find much info on the net, bar a school in American that performed it.. and the publishers name on my copy of da script.

3) i am making a website about the production. Its a bit threadbare at the mo, so if anyone knows of any cool links or info about this version of Les Mis, or have any cool info (Mis-related), please feel free to share. http://www.angelfire.com/rebellion2/paris

then this weekend i am finally getting round to reading the full length novel - not the abridged one.

Take care :)

Oh! So when I was in Paris...there was tons of graffiti everywhere and most of it I can't read. I can't read most graffiti in English either, usually it's just illegible. However when we were at a metro stop I saw one that very clearly said "liberté" and it made me imagine Les Amis as a gang and Enjolras sitting there with spraypaint.

On a completely unrelated note...there's this fellow in my Rock Music class who really looks like what I imagine one of the barricade boys would look like, not sure just which one, but he looks like he belongs there. He's got long brown hair, slightly curly and he really is very pretty. Personality wise, I don't imagine him there, but still.

Well just thought I'd update my community with my pointless ramblings. Much love.

You should hear my school's Enjolras. His voice is amazing. He comes on stage in The Beggars and you get goosebumps.

Come see Les Miserables if you live on the south shore of MA! /plug.

I've just joined this community, and I've always loved Enjolras. He's my second favorite character from Les Miserables. Javert is my favorite, of course. My friend and I (she's on this community, too) are always drooling over Michael Maguire. :) He's the best Enjolras ever. All right, well, see everyone around the community! Bye!

Colorbars...sort of... [Monday, March 29th, 2004

[ mood | accomplished ]

I have just discovered the fine art of making colorbars (except without color, because all I have is a Paint program and I can't tint stuff on it. hjordis appears to be our real colorbar guru. *grin*) I have made a few Enjy colorbars (and some Javert ones back at my LJ, but lots of Enjy too) that I shall now post here for your Enjy-worshipping pleasure. :)

Three picture-bars.Collapse )

And the codes.Collapse )

I'm not very good at it yet, as you can see...

The fruits of my Pre-Calculus labor [Wednesday, March 10th, 2004
@ 4:29pm]

[ mood | chipper ]

So, I figure it's about time I post a picture of what I imagine Enjolras to look like. I sketched this is Pre-Cal a while ago, and it's one of my better Enjolras drawings. I still can't manage to get him quite right - the "vast expanse of forehead" is particularly difficult - but this seems to be as close as I'm going to get to my mental image.

Oh, and the darkness of the lines is due to an AutoCorrect in Photo Editor. I don't actually have a pencil that dark, though I wish I did.

( The savage Antinuos. )

And if that doesn't work, I'm giving OpenShoebox.com a royal kick in the arse.

Hm, I really need to perfect him. Does anyone else have any drawings of Enjolras? I'd be curious to see people's interpretations of him.

And I added an icon for the heack of it, BUT I'm going to hold a contest the minute I figure out how the hell to turn this color scheme red and black instead of gray and...more gray.

But let me know what you think so far!

(And start working on your Enjy icons!!!)

*wicked little giggle* [Friday, February 20th, 2004

Okay. Wait until you guys hear what I did today.

My history class was on a field trip to the Constitution Center (in Philly). And in the Center, there is a room full of brass statues of the signers of the Constitution (some of them in rather slashy and compromising positions...*snerk*) and a large book, containing a copy of the Constitution (not an official one) and many pages for signatures, in which everyone who passes by can sign it and be all "Dude, I ratified the Constitution."

None of my classmates really bothered to sign the book, but I thought I should. But it would be boring to just sign as me, because who cares about me? And we'd just had this whole lecture from some guy about freedom and republics and insurrections and stuff...

So I signed the Constitution...as "Marcelin Enjolras."

Enjy's fanonical name is now in the historical ledger at the Constitution Center. Enjolras has ratified the Constitution.

I figure it sort of...symbolically brings closure to things. If he didn't get to play a direct role in giving France a more democratic government, now he's unofficially given America one. :)

Do you think Enjy would approve?
